By describing diversity Ahmed (2006) means the type of commitment to diversity that invokes difference but does not act on injustices (equality-diversity).

Commitment may lead to poor recognition. It is easier to claim that we all want justice than to recognize blind spots. In fact, often, antiracist movements lead to “pride” and to “a tick in the box” rather than really affecting the structures that support systems of injustices.

Good performance stands for good practices for equality and diversity. This is actually a step further from ticking the box. It often means producing some kind of “toolkit” to teach about, for example, multiculturalism in school. Being good at writing documents becomes a competency and at the same time an obstacle to acts aiming to fight against, for example, the structures for white nomination (on an institutional level) (Ahmed 2006, p. 110; Leonardo 2009).
